Information spreading in mORRUMBENE ABOUT CRITICAL SIGNS OF STROKE
In an article in Nature Reviews Neurology, it is written that research has shown that stroke is a leading cause of disability, dementia and death worldwide. Furthermore, that approximately 70% of deaths from stroke and 87% of stroke-related disability occur in low-income and middle-income countries. It is believed that Africa could have about 2–3-times greater rates of stroke incidence and higher stroke prevalence than western Europe and the USA.
Awareness of critical signs for stroke is key to receive help in time. Especially in the rural areas of Mozambique where we in Project Vita operate, where hospitals often takes long time to reach. Therefore, Project Vita together with Morrumbene district and a volunteering doctor from Sweden, designed a poster with the critical signs for stroke and implemented an information campaign in Morrumbene district. This involved visits to health facilities and public spaces to put up the posters and having discussions with people about stroke.
This project targets multiple targets within Sustainable Development Goal 3; Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
