Sara Flygar

Sara Flygar has been involved in Project Vita in Sweden since 2018, serving as the lead coordinator and now Chairman of the Board in Project Vita Sweden. Although, she is involved in most activities that happen within Project Vita. She also spent spring and summer volunteering with Project Vita in Quelimane, Mozambique, as a master student alongside fellow Project Vita staffer Martina Eichler. During their project, Sara and Martina developed an ingenious system to collect waste and turn it into cooking gas, using only parts locally available.

Born and raised in Stockholm, Sara joined the Swedish Army in 2010, where she served in a cavalry division at the royal palaces in Stockholm and Drottningholm. After her military service, she attended the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), where she earned a Master’s degree in Industrial Design Engineering before working for the Scandinavian engineering firm AFRY. Her insight into the engineering challenges faced by Project Vita staff in Mozambique has proven invaluable.

In her free time, she enjoys skiing and recently completed the famous Vasaloppet cross-country ski race in Dalarna, Sweden. Besides working full-time at AFRY and being part of Project Vita, she is also studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioural Science with a focus on Psychology. Her goal is to use this knowledge to become a better UX Designer and member of Project Vita by developing or improving products, services, and systems in societies that encourage people to make more sustainable choices in their everyday life.
