FACILITIES FOR a soccer field

PROMOTE AN ACTIVE EVERYDAY LIFE

The UN has reported  that sports participation is important for teaching respect, establishing social inclusion, and improving health through physical exercise. Importantly, it also fosters female and youth empowerment. Being a member of a team creates a feeling of belongingness and creates coherence between its members. The WHO has reported that physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality (Sport and the SDG's, UN). Through sports, people can stay in shape while having fun. Project Vita wished to construct a soccer field in Beira with facilities that would allow players to prepare for games and recover from physical activity in the heat. We built a roof and benches using local materials such as reed and mud. Of course we had to celebrate this project’s completion with a soccer game!

This project targeted Sustainable Development Goals 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages;and SDG 16: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
